i have 5 different luvs and a few i have owned in the past. my past trucks have had keys that fit the ones i own now. so its possible that more than one key would fit the same truck. so its possible i think.

Back in the 80's when I use to cruise in my LUV (good ole days) we stopped at a used car lot that had a black LUV, for grins I tried my key in the door, it opened, and then I proceeded to start it up with my key, and that was only when they were about 10 years old so you know the tumblers werent completly worn out. So another key working is a possiblity.

And when you get her back, install a secret ignition kill switch. Wow what a story. That's great that you will be getting it back.

I've never changed the door locks, but the ignition switch is pretty easy.
I wouldn't get it from AutoZone though, it's cheaper by about $20 at NAPA.
Just recently had to change mine...
P# KS6439
$55.92 I think...

The door locks will probably be a bit trickier... I know for a fact that the interior panels are gunna havta come off, and I'm not too sure how that'll work...
Good Luck!

I just found this site and have been following this thread since you started it. That's awesome that you found your LUV. I can't wait to hear when you get her back. Hopefully it's not in too bad of shape and they PROSECUTE the hell out of the slimey POS that took it.

New ignition plus maybe a hidden under dash kill/lockout switch.

I was always going to put a fuel pump cut out switch on mine, but that would fit best under the hood. You'd need something in the cab and easy to get to or more often than not you wouldn't bother. The fuel pump cut off would let them get in and get it started and then it would die. That would be enough to nab them for theft instead of just breaking into a vehicle. ;)

Just for your info there may be a serial # on the trans X member on the driver side toward the front but not all trucks had this as my 78 didn't but if it is look by the torsion bar adjuster.

Has anyone changed the door looks. If so where did you get them. The other thing to do would try and have them re-keyed (if that's an option).

i have changed many door locks mostly on newer cars but its usually pretty easy.
take off door panel
unhook rods from door lock cylender
there is usually a c clip or something along those lines holding the cylender in place just take off the clip and pull the cylender out

So great to hear you got your LUV back. Seems that for once the good guys win.

Hey, do you have an Unbreakable Auto Lock? I use one on the truck I store away from my house. If I were a crook, unless I knew I could pick the lock easy I wouldn't bother with the truck that had one because you can't drive it away if there's one of these on the clutch pedal.

The only issue with these is that I heard the cylinder type locks are easy to pick. That applies to the u-shaped bike locks, don't know if that's different from this one. And by the way I think we all know that The Club is pretty useless.

I've taken the locks off. Now its a matter of re-key them or replace them. Replace means two keys (not that big of a deal) it's just finding the right lock set. PartsAmerica has a couple that might work. The CL6 and the CL7. The CL6 looks a bit longer than the CL7.

I've been working on her all day. She's almost ready. One thing I need to find is a gas cap for a step side. Can't pass the smog test without one. The one's at the parts stores are to big. Has anyone been able to find a replacement. Thanks Zyanug, put them on today.
