Is there such a thing for a LUV truck? Otherwise, I will have to rig some sort of latch system..

I dont know if they still sell one but my truck has a locking gas cap although its been on there forever.....

If anyone here is offended by Christian spiritual references this post may be offensive, so best not to read it. I post because in this man's remote location Christian guidance may not be readily available.

It seems there are many tests in the experience of life. In some cases others bring about a testing of our mettle, but it some cases it's our own doing. Some are 'allowed' by God, but are not His direct doing, as when Job was tested by the devil's deceits and attacks. In other cases our own actions can lead to trials even though we did what seemed right to us to get there.

A Scripture verse comes to mind: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding..." This is a two edged sword, that it can seem to encourage us to stay in a bad situation and wait it out, or it can say that we should boldly strike out and change a situation knowing all will work out in the end. For me the answer is to pray for guidance and when I receive it, follow it! Good to have your face in the Bible of course....

Possibly your first test in this was to see if you would indeed shoot and kill someone over a couple of gallons of gas? You would not because it wasn't right in what you believe. Good!

I was in a situation similar to yours, in extreme remote location, having to truck in water, no electricity, working a mine in the desert. The 'good Christians' that owned the mine decided not to pay me regularly so suddenly no food, no water, no gasoline etc. I nearly died a couple of times. I finally got enough pay for some gas and supplies and decided to blow out of there, praying for them in all their confusions over their definition of 'Christian'.

Where? I asked the only One who knew where I should go. I believed He would tell me, and guide me. He did, I went. When I got there it ended up to be a new and better place but one of further testing. Repeat, repeat, until today. This place is best, but the trials and tribulations haven't ceased.

Bottom line: We say we believe, and God says, "Okay, prove it!"

In that belief, and desire to prove it, one would see a complicated thing: whereby we choose to be tried in the fire to show the proof of our belief! Fact of the matter is we have little more to offer in return for what we have received. Our own belief, and sharing that with others, is the key to the Christian's existence and is 'our side' of the relationship with God.

Off the top of my head I'd say you might be where you don't belong. I would counsel you to pray and seek His direct guidance, to clearly tell and show you if or where to go and how to get there.

Another mentioned, "Our Father, which art..." and that covers a whole bunch of ground! Ask your Father to directly lead and guide, and to protect, and to provide sustenance for your journey. We are all on a journey, even sitting still right where we are. You know that He is Faithful and True, like no other, so live the believe! Be-lieve = BE-LIVE. He WILL provide but He cannot unless you let him. In the same vein He cannot provide unless we are willing to do what needs to be done on our part.

Therefore if and when He tells you where and when to go, go, and trust and believe. It is best for you according to Scripture to seek out others of your kind, as Christians. We renegade Christians don't always fit in with some groups. If you search [and trust] diligently you will find a place where you belong, with some Christian support and fellowship to help you along the way, where you can grow and flourish, to be all that God wants you to be. In many cases we may feel others reject our ways when in fact it is our distorted opinion of them which is the problem!

Keep trudging on towards the Light, pilgrim, and KNOW that your 'believe' is directly connected to the Eternal Truth who has a name and LOVES YOU!

Consider in your own mind whether you should witness your belief to those unfriendly neighbors that they might finally hear the Truth. Yeah, it could get you killed, but overall, for a Christian, that is a non-problem considering your final destination.

I and others are praying for you.

I don't think most people will mind this one, as long as every post you do doesn't have religion in it. You are just trying to help a guy out.
To each his own. My 2 cents. You can keep the change.

Yeah....no biggee. If it helps him, I have no problem with it. The only suggestion I might make is that discussing each other's religious beliefs is a very private and personal thing, and it might be a little more appropriate to have a conversation like this with each other in a PM. It's a little less intimidating and /or confrontational, a lot more personal and private, and there is zero chance of getting anyone upset or offending anyone.

Add my $.02 to Papa's pile...lol

my $.02,

The natural human response when someone does harm against you is to fight back. But Jesus preaches against that.

Jesus (in Matthew 5: 38-42, NIV) wrote:
38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Much easier said than done, I agree.

Tundrawolf, I don't know anything about you, besides what I have read in this post. Just keep in mind what JimmieD has said. Keep looking ahead, and never stop trying.

Thanks very much, gents! I really hesitated before posting that and tried to delete a couple of times but couldn't make myself do it. I rarely go that far in specifically Christian thoughts in a thread and will try to excercise discretion in the future.

I agree fully that it would have been better to PM, but didn't think of it until this afternoon, long after the post was made. Thanks for everyone's understanding of this unique situation!

Tundrawolf, please feel free to PM anytime.

JimmieD

Just remember that the same Bible that says to turn the other cheek also says not to steal, so don't be a weak-kneed Christian and allow it to go on. Get yourself a good gas can and siphon the gas out yourself; as long as the container is airtight you can store the gas near where you sleep. Then do the ball bag trick 'tween the container and you. In the morning when yer ready to roll pour it back in. I would expect whoever's been stealing from you will quit trying after awhile.

I don't think anyone in this post was being offensive. If I don't like what someone posts I i stop reading the post and move on.

Tundra, in my opinion I would go somewhere else. Perhaps someone on Forum can keep an eye out in your area of a place youc could find cheap rent. Networking is very useful tool
Even people in church used bulletins, and that is a form of networking.

BTW, how is your Luv running?

I believe as starter of this thread that I should have a say-and I am not at all in the least bit offended by Jimmie D's post. How odd, he was in the same situation I am in. Suddenly stopping sending money, except for the care of their own animals. Plus I am being shot at. Plus a person in town are murmuring about getting rid of me.

I went to a church yesterday, the 3rd one I have gone to (The first, I didn't feel comfortable asking for help, the second said I would possibly get help if I became a regular member) they gave me some really good food, and also some money for gas. I was so thrilled yesterday to be able to cook some sausage and potatoes lol.

The consensus of that church was that the threat of death on me is most likely an exaggerated one (And they may be right, but I have met some of the company this woman keeps) and that I should stay here in the desert, because they are willing to help me with a possible job, food, and whatnot.

I went for a hike around and up the property, and they should call it "Sitting duck ranch", from a tactical standpoint it's the worst place to be. Anyone with any reasonably accurate weapon could go unnoticed. It doesn't matter, I went outside a few nights ago and fell on my knees and pled the blood of Jesus over myself and the property.

My only other option is to go blindly into Arizona and live with my mom, try to start a new life there somehow. But if the job situation here is as bad as there I will be back out holding a sign on a freeway offramp.

Go get a job at a Jiffy Lube or the like. Min. wage is better than nothing. Lucerne might not have one but Apple valley, Victomville, or Hesperia will.

I will say it always seems easier to get a better job when you have a job. We have a lube place in town works on a/c and other things. Sears used to have mechanics that did light line stuff. Battery's, alternators, water pumps, tires and such. I knew I guy at one time worked in the lawn mower and other power tools repairs. I think he made OK money. I think the jobs at Lowes and Home Depot pay OK. Your knowledge of home repair stuff would be a good thing too.

Glad to hear of the help from the church! I noticed that churches are more prone to help a guy out if he demonstrates that he wants to fellowship there.

Funny, TW, but it was AZ where my similar problem occurred, and also some locals were talking of murder. Talk is cheap and murder is as serious as it gets so 99.99% of the time it's just that: talk. The other .01% of the time it's a 50-50 chance of success for someone out to get you [that's down to .005% chance] , and YOU were the one on your knees, not them, so the odds are 100% yours! You're quite safe!

There are many Labor Ready offices around, one in Hesperia for sure. Not the best work but cash each day, often develops into a regular job. Feel free to PM or e-mail me: jimd4bt'AT'hotmail.com

We'll be praying....

First off, this is my first post! I bought my LUV a month ago and this site has been invaluable to me for information thus far. If there's a "Hi my name is..." thread I haven't gotten to that yet.

@jimmied: I was intrigued about your problem in finding a gas cap to fit the early LUVs, as I have a 1972. I wanted a locking gas cap for it after reading this thread. Here's what I found.

1. Rock Auto, Vato Zone, etc don't have the right part numbers for gas caps for these early trucks. You can't get a sense of parts interchangeability from them. So I measured the one that fit that's on my truck and looked at the manufacturers' catalogs.
2. Stant makes a replacement for the non-locking cap that fits a '72, Stant 10732.
3. It looks like it's not possible to get a locking gas cap for these early trucks that have a 1 3/16 filler opening. I suspect if I switch the filler neck with one from a later truck (which is 1 3/8" opening) then I could use the locking caps available for those, for example a Stant 10571. I don't think I'll bother as I don't have a problem with siphoning yet. If it becomes a problem I will do something.

Great idea on switching the filler neck if you can find the part easily, which shouldn't be too bad. Luckily I don't have this problem since I have the later trucks already.

Hello,

I took my passenger side front wheel off yesterday to change some coolant hoses, and every single one of my lugnuts was hand-tight.

I don't recall messing with this wheel, but I could be wrong.. The work of an amateur assassin? I have stopped being paranoid and walking around the property with my shotgun ready for any moving bush, but this loose wheel nut business is really weird.

Plus, yesterday one of the miscreants from the place where the woman lives called me, twice. I didn't answer either time.

All I can do is pray.

A few days ago I shaved off my beard and applied at mcdonalds, arbys, burger king, and wienerschnitzel. Not a call from any of them, but it has only been a few days. Also I stopped by a school here in town on a recommendation from a friend at Church and they told me they weren't hiring.
