hi will 29" swampers fit on a luv with a 3 inch body lift and the torsion bars up some? and please tell the truth!! i know there are people out there that say stock luv motors with stock gears can spin 33's and i know its not true!! but will it work?

i've seen them spin 31s without too much trouble.

29s aren't too much bigger than stock are they? what's the stock size...26,27? if you sawzall your fenders a little, you might not even need a body lift! the nice thing about those little swampers is that compared to their bigger brothers, they're cheap!

29's should fit without too much trouble. i have 27s and a 3 in body lift and they have plenty of room. you might have to trim the fenders a tad to keep them from rubbing when you turn. stock tire size is about 27" a luv should have pretty decent power with 29's.

I have 30x9.5's on my 80 4x4 and they look great. I had to trim the back side of the front wheel wells but it was rather easy. They will still rub a little bit if you are turning hard and flex the suspension but it has never been a problem. Never had tire damage or gotten me in a bind. My stock motor turns them pretty good. I would love to have more power but I don't want to fool with an engine swap on a 4x4 and the current engine runs great.

By the way I have a 3" body lift and I think about another 1" by tweaking the torshion bars.

How much do 29's cost? And where do you find them?

4wheelparts.com has lots of tires! they carry like every swamper imaginable! for example 29" thornbirds are 117 dallors and most off them around that size are about 100 dallors

I HAVE THIS AND IT IS TRUE i CAN EVEN TAKE PIC'S AND SHOW YOU. I EVEN RACE IT THIS WAY THE ONLY THING I JUST DID WAS PUT A USED HEADER IN. SO BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETHING IS NOT TRUE FIND OUT THE FACTS FIRST. IT CAN WORK

i want to see some pics of that I cant spin mine and i have 19 car tires almost bald...well...i can spin them if a drop the clutch real hard...and i have an offy/weber on there, but no header...

i want to put 33's on my luv...will they fit? I have bigger shackles in back and 3 inch body lift. Will they fit good with torsions up all the way and my fenders are already trimmed. Im lookin at the thornbirds...any thots on picking a good tire guys? How wide can i go? Possibly wider in the back then the front? Also, what is a good wheel to put on as far as offset/backspace/wheel size?

thornbirds are worthless, imho. they're basically made for the mall-crawler crowd and 1st time wheelers. they have huge lugs, but they're spaced very close together so they don't grip well on any surface. the only thing on them worth a damn are the mostrous side lugs. think of them as a big, heavy, noisy all terrain

if you want a serious mud/offroad tire, get the regular bias swamper tsl, or the even tougher tsl/sx. both are available in a 29" size, but the sx tires run much wider(33 is 14.5 wide )

33s would definitely be a sqeeze. you're definitely going to need a body lift, and some creative sawzall/hammer work. the end-all would to be to swap in toyota, jeep wagoneer or ih scout axles and steering. this would give you the clearance and flex you'd want, and awesome aftermarket support

i'd love to do a swap but i have no freakin clue how and not enough money right now...sounds expensive/time consuming/difficult etc etc...and i start to think, whats the point ? You swap that and u dont really have a luv nemore...u have a luv/toyota or luv/jeep. so why not just get a jeep or toyota? I think i'd just rather hope they start making some aftermarket for the luv...

well, it's not really different from somebody swapping in a ford 9" and a 350. from your perspective, it's no longer a luv as it has a chevy motor and ford axle in it instead of isuzu parts

how many people are out there driving a luv with a straight axle in the front? it's just one more thing to make it unique

but who cares if you have dont have the stock engine in there if you can hall ass??? A straight axle just doesnt seem like such a big deal i guess...seems like more hassle then its worth maybe. altho a straight axle sounds cool...how would i find out about doing that? And can u get a straight axle with 4.10 gears that fits good?

My luv had stock motor,stock gears and no lift with 30's. Just hella cut fenders. Anyways the 30's would bogg down hard core so im running stock as of now. Oh and kyle_22r im doing the swap this summer. U already told me what yr to swap with but steering and everything works out ok?

WOW...this nothing really to do with the topic but just had to say it. Today there was a luv sittin maybe a block away from my place for sale for 2500. I had to stop and ask the guy how the hell he did it because he had a huge lift with a straight axle in front and 38 inch swampers. Also had a nice v6 chevy motor putting out 350 horses but figures...it was a luv body sitting on toyota frame/running gear. Pretty sweet tho! Also had full roll cage...wish i had the $$$!

Striaght axle is well worth if if you want suspension travle off road, im running a luv frame on the chevette... I used wagoneer axles, which are a little wider and give it a nice stance, with 55-75 cj leaf springs, if you use that set up, youll need to weld a piece of 2x3 square tubign on the side of your frame, where the rar spring hanger goes, and a piece at the front stickin out past the frame about 2 inches. It fits rather nicely, and is the perfect width that way, so you dotn ahve to move the spring perches on a wagoneer axle.

DO NOT GET THORNBIRDs... they are usless, the mud build sup terrible, not good on rocks, they are slicker than crap, not even good on wet roads. Or sand either. I speak from exsperiance.

Just so you know, this setupt and why that leaf sprign is broke. It broke becuase i was running long shackles, and I snagged the front on a rock.
