Hey guys,

I just bought a 77 for $500 to use as a work truck. She's all stock, and we affectionately call her "The Turd" :) The body's straight with the exception of a couple of big rust holes in the bed. Motor runs marginally, in that it has a pretty noticeable knock at around 2500 rpm. This somehow is'nt getting any worse though, I've put about 300 miles on her and she still runs the same, hopefully she'll hold out for a while so I can save up some cash for an easy swap.

Just posting to see if anyone has any input or advice for me. Thanx!

Tod

Here's the rest of her pics. enjoy!

Welcome!!!...As for an easy swap, there really isnt any. But an upgrade to a V-6 or V-8 is worth it. For now, a motor rebuild and a weber carb with a header will keep you happy. Get ahold of Hugh Acosta (Rick). He lives in Vegas and he's in the middle of building a "Weapon of Mass Destruction". It may be more than you want but he can give you an idea of what it takes to get a bigger motor in a Luv. But as stock motors go, a weber replacement carb is almost mandatory. Be warned, once you bolt the weber on, the wheels in your brain will start turning for even more performance.

32/36 dgev. Thats the replacement weber I bought after Meanie kept houndin me  . (BTW, thank you J) It runs very well, and for a truck that just rolled over to 216500 miles, it runs pretty well. My truck has a lot of valve train noise, and a very slight knock at really low speeds. I drive it about 65 miles a day to work and home, a lot of that on the highway. It hasn't given me any trouble yet. Except for the fuel pump relay. I had to dray my own wiring diagram cause the stock relay died and the aftermarket AutoZone relay was very different. I can send it to anyone who wants it.

welcome

pull up a bucket and grab a beer :drinking:

grimace...are you sure that noise isnt the timing chain slapping around? if i remember right that sound similar to the noise mine was making and i turned out being the tensinor and guide was VERY worn.
pop your valve cover off and shine a light down both sides of the timing chain.

Yeah thats making noise too. I forgot about that. But yeah, my valves have a slight clatter as well. I will run the valves, put on a new timing chain and tensioner and we will see what we will see. I have a new digital camera that I bought my wife for Christmas (bought it so I could take pix of the luv but what she don't know, won't hurt her  ) and will post them as soon as I get a good day without home projects to mess me up.
