I did a dumb thing...elswhere reading about a gauge problem caused by too much voltage, I started messing with the voltage regulator, since I was seeing over 15 v at the battery. It was an aftermarket unit (Echlin), but it had an adjustable part, so I decided to adjust it. Now, the regulator clicks like crazy. Adjusted it again, and it sorta flutters, but no click, gen lite flutters too, car no runny w/o batt hooked up. With a feeler gauge, I adjusted it about 100 times, and it does the above 2 things, or just stalls.

Besides a new VR, anything else I can try? VR is over $50.

Remove it and take it to an alternator repair shop. They should be able to run power to it and adjust it on the bench.
I had that done to mine about 22 years ago when i still had a stock engine in it.

I believe in some of the old manuals they told how to adjust them properly...so if you can't find it in a Clymer, Haynes, or Chilton book...try looking at your local public or tech school/junior college library for the right manual that has the proper method to adjust your settings.

Otherwise...I'm afraid Ebay is your only hope.
