Yes it will, not too sure about the elec connections but if they are different I am sure it won't be too bad to hook up.

78 and 79 should be exactly the same. The one from an 80 should work too, but they did add a 4x4 indicator so the wiring might not match up.

I think that even some of the older ones will work, same plug, but I'm not sure on that. Never had a reason to try it.

ok, long story short the speedo cable snapped off in the dash of my lil v8 toy. The nut wouldn't go on so i just black taped the shit out of it to hold the gm cable in there. It worked for about a mile, then it just snapped the end off it and i cant get it out. So i think ima just take the one outta my parts truck.
