Your core is basically the same as the one in my 86 Trooper, and they just in general suck. The valve is built in, the ends are plastic, and the ends are just pressed into the metal core. I ended up getting a replacement from a junkyard that leaked a lot less than my original and then ran some Bars Leak in the cooling system to get it to hold. Good replacements just don't exist, and repairing the one you have is just about impossible.
I don't like using Bars Leak or stuff like that too much, but going without heat was not an option. The only replacements I've ever seen were NOS on ebay and they all sold for $400 or more.
