I am trying to switch my steering wheel to put a Mikado one on and am unsure how to get the old one off ? I have the turn signal switch and hazard switch off, not sure where to go from there ? There are 2 tiny screws on the backside of the wheel, but i can't get those off because of where they are. Are they even necessary to take off ?

im not to sure how yours is, but on my 83 isuzu pup there is just one but nut right in the middle of the steering wheel that conects the wheel to shaft, just remove that nut and start pullin on the wheel, it might be to tight and you might have to get a puller, but all i have to do is just yank on the wheel alot and it eventually comes off, not to sure if yours it the same but thats how mine works. hope this helps

unplug your horn, push in on the horn portion of your steering wheel and turn it counter clockwise. It'll pop off then you can get to the nut behind it.

Thanks ! I will have to try that. I was wondering how the heck I could get behind the horn button.

Horn came off like butter ! Now just have to take nut off. Yeah, I found out how much better the Mikado steering wheel was when I got my '79 Mikado. Thanks again !

Leave the nut on the column on 3 or 4 threads and see if you can jerk it off. Or smack the underside with a rubber mallet. Leaving the nut on loosely keeps the wheel from giving you a fat lip when it comes off.

lol, no fat lip or black eye here ! Thanks for all the info guys. It came off pretty easy with a few light taps with a hammer on the backside after removing the nut. The nut is 19mm by the way for anyone who might need to know. I also have the turn signals working better now. Must be having it off and tightening up things again made the difference. I also found 2 tiny little nuts in the plastic cover and re-attached them. They belong to where the wires plug into the switch, must be they loosened over the years with the turn signal use. Surprisingly they were not Metric, or at least the standard fit. I think it was like 9/64 or something like that. Anyway, horn works a bit better now, turn signals work better, and steering wheel is much better. I noticed this one is soft foam, it came from a '74 and my '79 Mikado has a hard rubber wheel. I will be adding a steering wheel cover in the future I think.
