I'm currently rebuilding the stock 1.8 on my 75 LUV. The engine is missing three bolts that hold the sliders for the timing chain. They actually go on the head. I've been trying all over Southern Cali and have had no luck. If anyone knows where I may find these bolts, I will greatly appreaciate it. humm hopefully somebody could say if ones from a 78 would work. I know in 78 they switched from a wedge head to a hemi head so the ones i have may not work.

At first I was thinking some standard bolt would work, but after looking at your pic I can see that won't be the case. About all you can do is look for a junkyard with a truck in it or find someone willing to part with them. You'll be looking for a 72-75 LUV truck (or the motor/parts from one) and later models (76 and up) will not have those same bolts. I have a complete head from one of those early year trucks, but I'd rather not pull parts from it. Could be someone else from here will have some parts laying around from after their V8 swap and could help you out too.

When I get home I will check the parts book and post up some Isuzu/GM part numbers for you. You could then check with dealers in your area and see what they can find. I have been highly recommended to the parts department at St. Charles Isuzu as they have some real wizards working there and treat online/phone orders very well. Check them out at

The person to talk to there is called Merlin, and many of the Isuzu people I know swear by them for hard to find parts.

As far as I can tell, the bolt part numbers are as follows:

right side (looking at the front of the motor)
94020169 - the smaller diameter bolt, appears to be uppermost
94020170 - the larger bolt, apparently lower
Left side
94020174 - bolt with a step down size near end? (upper)
94020170 - lower bolt, same as right size

It is hard to tell from the pictures in the parts illustration book which is which so it is possible these are not exactly correct. Hopefully a dealer (St Charles) can make sense of them.

The Series 1 motor (1972) is a little different in the head area, but the parts book lists the same numbers on them as 73-75 for these bolts.

Lately I've been spending more time at the junkyards than with my girl and somehow all the trucks I find have v8 engines. I'll definitely give this dealer a call. Thanks a million for the info.
