Post subject: engine from an s-10
PostPosted: Tue Jun 28, 2005 2:50 pm
ok i know i just made a post bu i as wondering if this swap will work. it seems that the luvs have a lot of mechanical defects and problems, so i was lookin for a more reliabel engine. i dont want speed, just reliability andd good mpg. so i was wondering if a 2.2 from my buddies s-10 would so the trick.

keep in mind its gonna be a show truck not a go truck. so what is the difficluty rating and stuff. i want a newer motor for 2 reasons. 1 i know more about them, and 2 they are just better in most cases. so any help would be appreciated :)

honestly the 1.8L is a good engine. Im running 9:1 compression on mine and some peoiple say its impossible becouse they blow headgaskets. Point being it will be good to you if your good to it. And my 80 LUV has been more reliable than my buddies 98 2.2L GMC Sanoma. Im not trying to bad mouth your idea im just saying that these things are awsomely reliable if a little quirkey at times (like all Isuzus). But that asside, the swap should be perty easy. Putting 4.3Ls and 350s in these trucks is perty common place and as the 4.3L shares a frame whith the 2.2L you should just be bale to act like your doing a 350 or a 4.3L swap and just use 2.2L mounts and what not. Only thing i would be unshure of is if the 2.2L shares the same bellhousing the 4.3L does.

hey man welcome to the site,

pull up a bucket and grab a beer. :drinking: :D

as for the 2.2 swap. i dont see where it would be a big problem. you will defiantly need to swap the trans too tho.

i think that ppl have pretty much run the gambit of power plants on these trucks

lets see, just off the top of my head that i remember seeing.

builtup 1.8
stock diesel
toyota 22r
SBC (of course)
buick V6s
a street driven supercharged BBC 8O (ratnluv)
a TPI SBC
i think someone was tring to put either a mopar or a ford in one.
and wasnt someone trying to convince derek to put a straight 8 in his?
