it could have a short in the wiring causeing the fuse to blow when it's jared wires could be crossed or many possible things. i would just cut the wires from the fuse box and put a independent fuse into it so i could put higher fuses in it and you could maybe figure it out i don't know maybe that would help who knows someone else could probably help

I had that problem until I put a 50 Amp fuse in and the problem went away. What size are you putting in Mark?

Clean all the contact in that circuit you can find. The connectors for the headlights, on the back of the switch, even the ones on the bottom and top of the fuse block. When the fuse blows, check the fuse block for any of the fuses getting hot.

That first fuse has given me trouble in the past where the contacts get kinda bad and then start getting hot. On my 77 one side of that fuse has actually melted the plastic block around the contact before the fuse blew. All I had to do was clean the contacts on the bottom where the wires hook on and the top where the fuse sits and it worked fine for several more years before cropping up again.

I'd really hate to have to resort to just slapping a bigger fuse in there personally. If wires started to smoke in the harness it could make a very large mess, shorting all kinds of things together. Its not just the lights you could fry, it is everything else in a wire bundle with the lights.

A last tip, I'd check all the park lights on the truck. One could be rusted up enough to create a high resistance point and heating up the whole circuit or you might have a short in one of the sockets that just isn't quite bad enough to blow the fuse immediately.

ive already tried cleaning the connectors in the fuse block and still no go, i have noticed that the fuse does get very hot, it did melt the pastic around it so i flipped the bock around as there was a free spot at the end

no there is a splice connector (ground side) inside the loom right inside the engine compartment i had the same problem on my 78 the fuse would blow at first so i fixed it
then the right was dim and left was bright so i spliced a new ground and whalaa no more problem
you might try that and see if it works
