I've had that problem with mine for years... It's supposed to be a temp indicator for the cat so I just pulled my bulb and have been drove it for a couple of years like that. Since you don't have a cat, it might be worth checking where that wire ends up now before pulling the bulb, just in case

My 77 used to do that every once in a blue moon, usually when I wound the engine real tight accelerating. I never did track down what was causing the bulb to light, and that truck never had the sensor or a cat in it from the time it was new. I used the bulb to replace another one that burned out at some point, haven't seen it light since.

I have toyed with the idea of putting a temp sensor on the block just as a backup to the temp guage. If the gauge sensor fails because I somehow dumped all my water, the block temp sensor would catch it overheating and maybe give me a prayer of shutting it down before the head warped or cracked. That heat light would be the perfect place to hook up a "hey your motor is in meltdown" idiot light.

since i've had the truck i've had the heat light come on when i really drop the hammer.

well the sending unit goes to the guage and the thermo controler right? i've been suspecting that the thermo controler has been bad as long as my speed sensor has.

the thermo controler controls the heat light, the coasting richer circut(non exestent) and the choke right? my choke was not been operating properly for a while now... i set it and then it won't start in the morning

if i took the thermo controler out, hooked the sending unit up to the guage and set up a rheostat to manualy control the choke i'd be in good shape right?

i need to stop ending my sentences with right.............. right? :P
