I am in the process of doing a total restoration on my Chevy LUV. I was wondering the best way to get the bed off. I tried to simply unscrew it but that didn't work. Should I use an air chissel or a grinder maybe? :?:

Chisel or grinder???? 8O There are 10 bolts that hold the bed on and unbolt the filler neck from the bed and the vapor hoses from the gas tank and thats all you need to do.
If you look at my pic you can see the black pads on the inside of the frame rails where the bolts use to be on my truck.

You'll need a cutting torch and about 5 to 10 gallons of gas...

No really looks closely at T's pic. 5 bolts on each side and take off the filler hose and unplug the lines to the evaporator box and viola!

Everyone else seems to have covered the attachment. 10 bolt locations, and the rubber pads may stick a bit. if you have all the bolts out and it still feels solid on there, I'd bet the pads are just stuck to the frame and bed a little.

Don't forget the wiring harness connector in the back, its in the middle just a foot or two forward of the back of the bed. Everything else (brake lines, other wiring, etc) is hooked to the frame not the bed.

When you take off the lines to the fuel tank expansion chamber box (thing behind the plate in the driver's side front of the bed) be sure to plug them off and note where they came from, perhaps with a label on a chunk of masking tape. There isn't a very good resource for which ones go to which spot on the fuel tank or the expansion box. When I got my old 79 the hoses were unhooked and I got a surprise the first time I filled up the tank. Fuel poured out of the loose hoses and I had to figure out how to block them off in a big hurry. I think one of them may hook to a port on the tank that has a tube going to the bottom of the tank too. It could leak even without a full tank of gas if it decides to get a siphon going somehow.
