hey ive been having some kind of odd problems with my luv... i was driving down the free way at night, then all of a sudden the lights began to dim, and then the engine cutout, so i had to get someone to charge my battery for about 10 mins so i could get home. i think that my alternator is broken... not sure though, anyone have any ideas?

Put a voltmeter across the battery terminal on the 25VDC scale. watch the reading and have someone start the engine. The reading should jump up about 1&1/2 volts to maybe 2 volts with the alternator working.

ditto. i had the same problem a week ago, an it turned out the alternator was fried. it was kinda wierd, cause the charge light didn't come on. anyways, i pulled it after i got home and checked the resistance through the bugger like the book says, and sure enough, they were out of the limits. next day i took it to napa and had them test and confirm it had died. another thing i would check is the cables and their connections. corrosion could be the culprit of your alt's death. napa has cables and stuff to fix er up, so why not combine trips.
