Post subject: Noise when steering left
PostPosted: Tue Aug 31, 2004 4:55 pm
When I steer the left, about half a steering wheel turn, there is a noise. And it seems to be louder when I'm going slower. I can also sorta feel it in the steering wheel. Anyone know what it is?

I guess the best way to describe it is like when you drag something metal and heavy across your garage floor. That's all I think of that is close to it. It sounds like it's coming from the fronet end, and it's a 2wd. My friend said that his old truck did the same thing, except when he turned right, and he said that is was something with the rear end? So I don't know what to think.

It might be your wheel bearings. They'll make a howling noise when put to a side load. Pull them out and clean them thouruly. Dont use compressed air to spin dry them. It sounds cool but it causes bearing failure. Inspect them for discoloration and wear. If they look good, regrease them fully and reinstall them. Even if that doesn't get rid of the problem, it's always good to have freshly greased bearings.

You know what they say, "Two wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left."

If its a CV joing, check to see if any of the boots have been torn.
I like Blue meanies suggestion as well about the bearings.

Does the sound change at differnt speeds?

Recently My exaust pipe was hitting the frame by the torsion bars.

Oh yea and if turn to the right and do reverse you gan go left too!
