 Post subject: just had a thought...

i doubt this would work but if it doesnt i wanna know why. theres no lift kits for the 4x4 luv front end so why cant you just put a special made block between the lower ball joint and the lower control arm to lift it? or would that not lift it? I was trying to think if that would work all day today and i just cant picture it.

it would lift it. The torsion bars are still in the same location and still have the same amount of tension. Now if your talking about the lower ball joint, adding a spacer there would lower the truck. About the nly way to do a legit lift on the luv would be to make drop brakets for the front suspension and torsion bar brakets. :?

Wouldn't a spacer between the lower ball joint and the control arm lower the truck? The spindle sits higher, therefore the tire sits higher, therefore the the truck sits lower. You would gain some up/down wheel travel though, so combined with cranking the torsion bars to regain lost height it might still be a gain in some area.

The only way to really beat out the 3 or so inches you can get from cranking the bars is to lower both control arms in relation to the rest of the truck. Since the upper arm shaft sits right on top of the frame, it makes it hard to move it any lower. I think it was Gordo here that did it by cutting the frame just rear of the front suspension and dropped the whole works. This moved the axle, diff, control arms, and everything lower to gain height. The down side is that it takes some rework on the steering and driveline to get it all hooked back up again and working. Once you get into the project this far though, a solid axle front starts looking pretty easy to do. There is a long thread on Gordo's project someplace around here, "lifting the luv" or something like that.

if cranking the t-bars isn't enough i'd recommend going to a straight axle.

i'm sure you could build balljoint spacers, though

800xl and i are on the same page, i just couldnt explain it as well as he can :lol:
But i do agree whith kyle_22r, if your going to be doing major things, go to a junk yard and pull the front end off a solid axle Toyota and do an SAS. Youd gain durability (the Toy 8" is alot stronger than the 8bolt ZU) and youd have more parts than you can shake a stick at.
