alright guys so after much consideration and an all time low in my check book. there will be no engine build ups in my near future. so now what im thinkin' is maybe i can just try some bolt on stuff while i fix the cosmetic stuff as well. i just dont have the money right now to do the nice engine build i wanted. so ive read that many of you have a weber carb. how much do these generally run and does anyone know a site online which sells them? and ive been wanting to eliminate the points and go electronic. now should i hit up the junk yard and check the 81 and up models? or is this somethin' that can be purchased remanufactured or new? do you suggest an exhaust system? also headers.......have you guys had sucess with them and which ones? so in your guys opinion are these mods worth it. i mean i love driving my truck i just want a little more pep. well, actually i want a slam you back in your seat pep. but that'll have to wait. for now though i just want to make sure im gettin' everything i possibly can from the engine. so what kind of improvements have you guys seen in your bolt ons? and for you guys with the extreme build ups how bout maybe a ballpark amount on how much you've spent so i know just how much i should save. well, think thats about it. thanks for all your feedback on my other posts and thanks for any feedback you guys can give me on this one.

Check Ebay for weber carbs. They can be found from time to time there.

A search like:

http://search.ebay.com/weber-carburator ... 1QQfromZR8

Should do it.

Keep an eye on the "Auction" and "Classifed" sections on this site too. Sometimes a Weber pops up for sale on there.

Check my previous post here. It's for the Weber with electric choke that fits the LUV.

Ge the one 32/36 DGEV-IC this is the one with the cut off soliniod so you dont have run on. I believe your stock carb will have this. Alot of webers on the market will not have this weber cutoff option But hese are expensive new. Most on the market are the man DGV with the small idle jet holder and cannot be made to hold the cut off soliniod. I notice the 32/36DGAV can be made to the soliniod cuttoff option. It will have a Bigger idle jet holder(brass screw head).

Oh by the way your not going to get seat of the pants power.
Webers are just a Ezer carb to maintain with a little enhancment.

If buying a carb used you still need the adpater plate. I ported mine out to match the weber so there was no sharp edges to trip the airflow.

it cost alot of money to build a small motor,But in the long run it will be worth it. Than nickle an dime here and there.

If there is a conversion from points do it. Pertronix has the 74-75 LUV points conversion. But will not fit the later distributers
Im not a fan of the mallory UNILITES but hook them up correctly. There might be a unilite conversion. I would not pay 200 for the whole distributor(not worth it)
Also is the Crane Cams(ex Allison )XR700 conversion. Alot of people like them but has a box to place somewhere.http://www.cranecams.com/index.php?show ... =5&prt=160

As for headers I dont really think you need them unless you have dual carbs(like me). Just up size the pipe abit and run a Dynomax Superturbo(they have all sizes) its not to loud. If want more quiet get a clifornia Turbo (2 or 3 chamber turbo).

As for prices on used webers. I won one on ebay for $35. I was in good shape but a little dirty. I have seen them go for about $100 so I think I got a good deal. I will see when I get it hooked up.

From my experience a header or a weber alone don't give you a real great big noticable improvement, but the two work very well together. The weber gets the air in better than the stock carb, and the header gets it out. Apart neither is a real spectacular improvement, but together they do quite a bit more.

Upping the exhaust size and switching to a better flowing muffler will also help move things out of the truck better.

Another thing to consider is a cam upgrade or regrind. I believe http://www.deltacam.com can do a regrind for LUV cams to improve low end torque and up the power. I've never had one to compare before/after with but a lot of people with the bigger 2.3 and 2.6L Isuzu motors swear by them.

You can drop a lot of money into parts like this pretty fast. eBay is a good way to stretch the bucks out, but you may have to be pretty patient to catch a really good deal.

800XL,
Be leary of DELTA regrinds. I bought some Datsun cams from them(cheap). I gave my cores to them.
But i suggested another member try there cams(Datsun).
When he went home he found out the lift is not as stated as per their spec.
What happened is they ground the top flatter to get more duration but did not ground the back of the cam to get the lift back. So more or less I got a longer duration cam but stock valve lift. If anything I wanted the lift more than duration. I cked 2 of their cams and the other datsun guy siad the same thing so Mike the cam to ck true lobe lift otherwise send it back.

I do have another Delta it seems OK but dont know the true cam specs.
They are OK cams but maybe the grinder was off when they did them. Just a word of warning about Delta out of Tacoma,Wa
