its a heavy motor, probably have to strengthen the front end or swap in another front end. the 6.2 is notoriously underpowered and sluggish. of course in a luv it shouldn't be but the 6.2 was a non turbo diesel, so you can expect it to be sluggish. you can swap all the turbo stuff off a early 6.5 turbo diesel. i would say a gasoline engine would be better. with the diesel, your luv would pull anything, but you could get better acceleration easier out of a gasoline motor.

A serious diesel 4x4 LUV... now thats something I've been thinking about for a while. If I had the cash, heres what my LUV would be transformed into:

6.5 Turbo diesel engine
A nice strong tranny, mated to an NP205 T-case
Solid Toyota front axle
Dana 60 rear, with a dually conversion
Suspension and Body lift totalling around 6", nothing too crazy

You all probably think I'm nuts by now  but I have to say, having a mini truck thats as hairy as a full-size 1 ton would be awesome. You could tow a house (maybe with some frame strengthening...) and even with the dual rear wheels, still fit into a parking space with room to spare. If I ever get the massive amount of money it'll take to do that, I'll build the monster!

sorry, I'm done now...

so do you think a 283 and th350 would be a better idea? would the rear end last with either engine?

I had a stock rear behind a 283 from 88 to when I sold it in 93. As far as I know it still has the stocker.
