Try the junk yard. Pull the vacuum line to the distributor off the carb and suck on the line. A good one will not let you draw air. A hole in the diaphram is bad and let's you draw air thru the hose.

i bought one for my 81 from oreilly's. i think it was about $25 not sure if its the same one for an 80 but they had to order it. autozone showed that it had been discontinued.

by the way, the one i got was made wrong. the threaded hole for the screw was on the wrong side, which made the arm on the vaccum advance on the wrong side. so i had to drill and tap the other side. the old one i took off, you could tell that someone just twisted the arm to make it right, which probably tore the diphram. i guess they've been making them wrong for some time now.

Where are you in Montana? I got a distributor from my 80 LUV in a box under my work bench. I don't need it cuz I have a Mallory Unilite installed now.

Not that far. I was raised in Spokane. I'm in Coeur d Alene now. Used to live there myself when I was stationed at Malmstrom in the early 70's. Used to fish the Sun River and below all the falls in Great Falls. Best fishing I ever had. Will a 80 distributor fit in a 78? I dunno.

I was thinking the vacuum advance assemblies might be interchangeable. Call up the Chevy dealer and maybe they can tell you. Or maybe someone here knows.

An 80 and a 78 should have identical distributors. 81s is where they switched things over. The 80s have a few little differences compared to 79s and older (like the plug on the voltage reg is round instead of square) but by and large they should be about the same.

There you go dels78. You can have the whole distributor or just the vacuum advance. I just ain't gonna drive to Montana.

Hey robertcda, what do you want for it, I could probably have my brother in law come and pick it up for me. Or if I was feeling really adventurous maybe I would drive the luv to come pick it up..
