i honed my block yesterday. the head is all machined, my rods were reconditioned, the .020 pistons were pressed on the rods, and i i cleaned everything up and repainted it. i had a few cans of ford engine blue, and some okie chrome shake and shoot, so i startd painting. the block is ford engine blue, and the valve cover and oil pan is okie chrome. where it is all raised up on the valve cover, and were it is raised and says isuzu, i taped off and painted blue. it looks kinda cool from a distance, but i cut the tape with a dull old pocket knife, and put the tape on when the paint was still wet, so it is kinda screwd up. im just waiting on a gasket and bearing kit, and then ill be ready.

do any of you know how hard it is to time a luv engine, the rest will be cake, but what about timing? imkinda nervouse abuot that. and how much would a rubber floor mat be? thanks for any help.

Valve timing is fairly easy as long as you have the timing cover off the front of the motor. Line up the marks slap on the chain. The oil pump/distributor gear is a little trickier, but still just a matter of line up the marks. Just make sure to notice the slotted end has an offset. I assume you have at least a haynes manual to guide you, it covers things in enough detail and should be a big help.

I think JCWhitney carries replacement carpet or floormat, but I'm not sure on their prices.

Not the prices that is the problem. They kill you on the shipping!

once you have the crankshaft pulley on, you line up the mark on the crankshaft pulley with the zero on the timing cover, then line up the mark on the camshaft with the mark on the rocker arm bracket.

Dudes. I have the Chilton, Haynes, and now my new toy of Clymer. Clymer gave me more information on my carb than the other two. Come to find out I have a missing screw.

Now that I have the three, I get a complete set of ideas on the truck.

Each one has the timing thing with a few slight variations. If you can find one of the Haynes Book or the Clymer's, your set on the timing.

I like the Clymer better than the Haynes too. The problem is locating them. Haynes LUV shop manuals are in practically every shop around here, Chiltons are a bit more rare, but the last Clymer I found was at the Goodwill thrift store used. If you really want a full set though, you need to pick up a factory service manual. Only then will you have the complete set of ideas.

Getting the valve timing right should go along with putting the head back on. You do NOT want to bolt down the head without making sure there are no valves sticking down to jam into a piston.

I have not seen any of those up on eBay. I will have to scour it again to make sure.

I did manage to find the vacuum diagram in the Clymer for the 73, but the 75 is right on the hood. Cool beans.
