OK...everybody talks about how their luv has SOOO much power and does SOOO well, even on all stock engine. Ok, I have a freshly rebuilt with all the smog shit stripped off. Engine runs fairly smooth but I feel like im driving a 40 foot slug bus. You know the type, one of those damn long old diesel banana buses. It pulls OK at higher rpms but horrible at low rpms... Only things i can come up with so far that could help is new spark plugs (even though the ones in it look new) and im leaking almost all my exhaust out the manifold...the pipe is just hanging from the manifold so very little actually goes to the mufler........Very loud...on top of that it runs really rich...i only get maybe 15 mi. per gallon. What to do????

well first off fix the exsaust, stright pipes cause you to loose to bottom end and this is whats happening whith your exsaust pipe not sealing. Second hook a vacume gage to the motor and play whith the mixture untill you get the most vacume at idle. After that make shure all your vac hoses are pluging in not loose and not rotted.

If your carb is not tuned correctly, it will run like hammered shit at lower rpms.

i think the problem is the exhaust. especially on a little 4 banger, if your exhaust gaskets don't seal, you're not gonna get anywhere fast :)

hm...the vacuum thing is interesting. Well, like i said all the smog shit is gone so i have plugged anything that was sucking air as far as i can tell. So you hook a vac gage to wut??? And then you play with the jet screw until you get the most vac???? I never touch that thing because i was told not to...told that its a pain it the @$$ to readjust and u might even need a "pro" to readjust it....

no matter what you do to the motor its still a little 4 cylinder i'm happy with the power i have cause i don't expect it to have alot of power, acceleration is not good but high end is good. i defenitly agree about the exhaust backpressure is very important to low end torque on a 4 cylinder. if you want more power go with a webber and a header.
