I purchased a stock 1979 Chevy LUV 4x4 with what I was told only needs some carb pieces replaced. After short research and honestly not ever worked on carbs, I just purchased the Weber 32/36 electric choke. After replacing that I have come to find out I'm missing way more than just a couple parts. I'm needing a breakdown of the fuel system. Im completely missing the mechanical fuel pump (does it bolt into the head?)so I need some pictures and a diagram of what fuel lines connect where. Basically the full fuel system is disconnected. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I bought the online version of the Haynes manual but honestly its completely worthless. One blurry picture per chapter doesn't cut it and I'm a millennial so I need pics lol. I. have already purchased the carb, fuel filter and regulator. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge

The pump is electric... At the top iOS the subforums page, click the main site link, the link takes you to the main site with tons of on line manuals. Enjoy...

So, there's not two pumps? An electric pump at the fuel cell and one in the engine compartment? The Haynes manual is stating that there's two. There's not an and/or regarding chapter 3 and section 7 and 8.

I could be wrong, as I don't do stock. I don't remember any on the one I have pulled out. Someone else should be along shortly...

Should only be one fuel pump on the frame cross member right in front of the gas tank.

79 4x4 only has one electric pump on the frame rail. That's it.

The earlier (72-76) engines had a mechanical only.

Did yours have an aluminum valve cover or a stamped steel one?

It was my understanding the aluminum valve cover engines ran a mechanical fuel pump whereas the Hemi head stamped steel valve cover ones ran the electric. And it was also my understanding that the aluminum valve cover engines were used through 1976 and they switched to the hemi engines in 77.

But I have been wrong before and will be again.

See, what confuses me is they updated the engine in 76, but the dash, wing windows, front bumper, quad headlights, etc were all changed for 77 and 78. Wish they had just put all the new crap into one model year LOL.
