I would not imagine taking the whole harness out. That is a lot of spagetti to work with.

Hmmm... Gimme a fork.

I was having that problem, plus the lights would kind of "flicker". Kind of made me not want to drive it at night.
Then one of my buddies told me it could be a bad ground. So, I checked and didn't see any grounds from the engine to the body. The ground cable went to the engine where the starter mounts up to it.
I just ran a heavy gauge wire from the negative battery post - to the fender well (where the coil mounts to).
Now, no more flickering, and headlights stay bright even with the heater at full blast.

Maybe you should look into that.

oh yeah that reminds me to say that there is NO ground under the dash.....the wiring harness never grounds to the metal under the dash.
you might try that as well because I added one to the harness as I was adding wire.
GOOD CALL LUVParker!!!!!! :D

edited to say that you can splice into one of the ground wires under the dash for that added particular ground.

Ya, it also fixed some problems I was having with some gauges reading incorrectly.
Sometimes its the simple things. :)

Not really bad, but you do have to track where they go if you want a wink of a chance at it.

I have to re-wire the 73 because most of the connectors are now peanut butter, so it is a summer time thing.

Which reminds me. I have to get my battery out and charge it for when I go get my 76 LUV Sat.
