I am currently trying to resurrect a 75 that I bought last year. It has been parked for over 11 years now, and only has 90K original miles on it! I have it very close to driving condition now, and installed a new electric pump on the frame. When I crank the truck, I can hear it pump, and it even pumped enough fuel to the carb to run. When I release the key to the run position, the filter under the hood runs out of fuel and the truck dies. The pump is not pumping with the truck running, but will pump while cranking. I tried a spare ignition switch from a wrecked truck, with the same result. Any ideas would be appreciated!

It works like this: While the key is in the start position the fuel pump is fed from the ignition switch, after the engine starts the alternator/voltage regulator then feeds the fuel pump relay ( under a metal cover on the passenger side fenderwell ) that keeps the fuel pump running.

So, it sounds like I need to check the charging system. Also, is the "C" light the charge light in the older LUVs? I believe that light is brightly lit with the truck running.

Thanks guys! The voltage regulator did fix the problem, and it starts right up now without carb cleaner! Now if only I could get the brake problem fixed, I'd have her back out on the road where she belongs!
