Well, I'm still trying to decide my options on a rebuild or engine swap. If any of you could recommend a rebuild kit, I'd be greatful. It's a 79 1.8 with the 3 speed auto....

I rebuilt my '77 LUV a few years ago and I got everything from e-bay. Bearings, pistons, rings, gaskets, cam bearings and whatever else was needed. I was happy with the purchases but one gasket set came to me doubled over by the USPS and the head gasket was ruined. Gasket company sent me another one. I got the clutch and pressure plate from O'Reilleys--Lifetime I think---. I had the machine work done locally---I had to deliver and pick up the machined parts. It wasn't a bad deal at all and I'm glad I did it. Now My LUV runs great!! Give it a try.

I see you are in Corvalis....Be careful of the wrecking yards there. I once bought 'on line (e-Bay) a '77 luv transmission/bell housing but after arrival, it turned out to be a '78 Luv transmission. '77 trans has the starter on the right and '78's have the starter on the left. Someone in their yard labeled it a '77 but they were wrong. Those guys were called B&B Auto wrecking in Lebanon. I tried to get a refund but they wouldn't do it. Beware these crooks!

Yeah. I'm cautious on buying things online. The yards here seem to want to charge full price for anything. Almost not worth it.

Yeah. I've been looking into it.
