72-75 had 456gears
76-82 had 410gears
83-87 had 410s, 373s, and 342s sometimes.

The early 72-75 LUVs had that low of a rear axle ratio as a 2WD? I find that hard to believe as it's the same ratio a Trooper has but that is a 4WD vehicle which I can understand. If you had a LUV that had the automatic trans I do believe 4.10 is the factory ratio. But manual trans you would think it to be a higher ratio axle. I know 81 and up trucks like the back of my hand. The trucks with the automatic came with 4.10, along with the 4x4s and the 5-speed came with 3.73. And of course a PUP with a 4-speed (in a 2WD) came with the highest ratio axle of 3.42. I've never heard of any different ratios then that in a LUV or PUP.

My '79 has a 3.73:1 differential.

The Series 9 factory shop manual says the following:

Rear Axle Ratio 4.10:1 or 3.73:1
Front Axle Ratio 4.10:1

It seems that the 2WD's had 3.73 rear ends and 4WD had 4.10.

Hi. I came here looking for answers and i just want to confirm what im hearing...

I have a 80 4x4 gas 4sp manual. Its rear diff gear ratio should be 4.10?

And my parts truck is a 79 4x4 diesel conversion (4sp manual), its rear diff should also be 4.10?

Im doing a diesel swap and hoping I don't have to swap any differentials or axles.
