Ok so we have but the new head on got a new timing chain had someone come out and set timing but I think we still have timing off or we didn't do it right because we are still backfiring from carburetor. what are we doing wrong or missing? has new spark plugs, new head, new gaskets, new timing chain

I think I remember it being a 76. Are you positive the timing chain was set up correctly?

its a 1976 luv. 1.8L

we followed some directions we found on line to set the chain. but still back fires. I'm guessing those instructions were not accurate or missing something.

I would start by checking the cam timing, putting the crank on TDC and making sure the cam is on the mark. Make sure the firing order is correct. Did you adjust the valves? It could also be a tight valve.

sounds like you have the distributor on the wrong tooth and it is sparking way out of time. i just had this issue with my v6 and had it happen with my 4 cylinder. do you have a timing light to see where it is now?

Double check firing order. 1-3-4-2 counterclockwise.
