Ok guys, my front left brake is seizing up..i think. Its good till you drive about two miles then it seizes up, it still turns, the wheel that is, but it applies a lot of pressure so it acts like that wheel is braking. I took off a while ago and couldn't find anything apparently wrong with it so i stuck it back on but it doing the same thing again. What could it be?? I don't really have much time to fool around with it at the moment, is there someway i could just "shut off" that one brake for now and use the other three??

if you have a bad hose (to the caliper) it could not let the pressure off causing it to seize.

The caliper is probably starting to lock up. The only things to do are either rebuild it which might work, or buy a new one which is the better solution.

Hmm ok thanks guys, i just unbolted it and tie straped it up onto the bumper for now so i could at least drive it a little ways. I will take it apart and see if there is any problems. I don't know much about brake though so this should be interesting....

If you just tied it to the bumper, you are in for a suprise. When you mash the brakes, they may go clear to the floor, and push the piston out of the caliper. Without something in the caliper, like the rotor, the piston is free to pop out when you push the brake pedal.

Ok just checked out the situation here....lets label it as "LUCKY"! The piston never fell out its hanging in there b/c of the lip on the bottom of the bumper 8O ! And then upon closer observance i figured out where all my brake fluid went! It all drained out of there. So now im gonna have to put the pads in and something the same size of the rotor so it doesn't push that piston out of there, i think that will work?! Hopefully tommorow i can fix it properly though. See i told you guys i don't know much about brakes!!

if you pushed on the brakes with the caliper off th roter, then you probablly collapsed the the piston, and if you do that then sometimes you have to buy a new caliper, i am not sure about on luvs, but i had to do that on my 78 chevy big 10

You should be able to just buy a new caliper kit, which is just the square cut seal on the piston. clean all parts real good, and scuff the piston and cylinder bore with scotch brite. (that is a very coarse pad I use to prep aircraft parts for assembly, available at ace hardware). If you think you damaged the caliper AT ALL, buy a rebuilt one. Do it right, do it once my old man used to say.
