The right side turn signals front and rear wont turn off ever on my 76 luv, even when I turn off the truck. I have changed the flasher relay under the dash and followed wires from fuse block all the way to steering column turn signal switch and found no breaks in the wiring. There was never a problem with the signals on the truck till this happened. I am out of ideas on what else it could be anyone else have any ideas.

Can you turn on the left side blinkers? The turn signals on the LUV's work with the key on or off. I have drained my battery a few times hitting the lever with my knee getting out and finding them barely blinking the next morning. It sounds to me like the mechanism in the steering column/switch lever has something wrong with it, probably going to have to pull the steering wheel.

Yep, it is your signal switch on the steering column. It's all little plastic levers in there, and it sounds like one of yours has broken in the 'on' position.

The 'seesaw' style design allows the internal switch lever to be put under a lot of direct pressure if, like TILTED said, you knock it extra-hard with your leg while getting out, or something like that. An upward impact of that type would definitely affect the RH signal...

Fortunately, the switch assembly is simple to remove, and spares are not too hard to come by. I bet a few of the users on here have a couple extra turn signal switches in their junk boxes.

To replace:
The steering column cover has 3 screws on the bottom. Signal switch lever is attached with a pipe bracket, with one screw on each side. There is an alignment flange (on the underside if memory serves) to ensure you have the bracket at the correct height on the steering column. It isn't obvious, I missed it the first go.
The hardest part will probably be separating the crusty old plastic plug and jack. If you go as far as taking the time to clean 30-odd years of dust out of your steering column, the entire job might take you a half hour.

edit: the steering wheel does not need to be removed for this job

Yep, my bad I haven't worked on mine for so long I forgot the whole column cover comes apart. I was having S10 flashbacks, not LUV.

No worries, those are good problems, TILTED.

Thanks for the replies guys I found a broken wire under the steering column cover, just spliced it back together and works just fine now.
