Sounds likely. I had an intermittent problem with my 79 when I first got it running that turned out the be the carcass of a yellow jacket that had died in the tank. It would run good, then stall and barely get enough fuel to idle. Blow back into the tank and it would run good for a while longer. The dead bee was getting sucked up the tube and stopping when it hit the fuel filter, plugging it like a cork. I finally realized what was going on when its hind end stuck in the filter inlet enough to see when I took the hose off. Pulled the take and cleaned it out, no more problems.
If its sat for a while even crud in the lines after the filter and pump can foul the carb. There is a screen at the carb where the fuel lines attachs that catches a lot of stuff, but not everything. Take the inlet tube off and you should see the screen.
I'll look into that. Probably pull out the in line filter and let the fuel pump run for a bit to get all the nastiness out of the tank maybe? I already went through one fuel filter already after driving the truck the first time when I was still at the shop, the filter had plugged so I had to get another one. Could be plugged again maybe, though I had a thick constant flow of fuel coming out of the fuel line when I was on the side of the road yesterday.
Also probably going to pull off the carburetor and hose it down with carb cleaner.
Just in case I have all the parts I need to rebuild/renew my carb in my shopping cart at RockAuto.
