I have a 79, and I'm pretty sure my clutch cable snapped. Clutch went right to the floor and the pedal just sits all the way down but I can pull it up and down freely. The clutch is relatively new. Is the installation of the cable very difficult? I am a moderate mechanic at best, but don't have much experience with transmission related repairs. I have a repair manual, but it doesn't specifically outline the steps for installing a new clutch cable. Any and all help on the subject is appreciated.

This is tough, right up there with changing windshield wiper blades. ;)

Hold the new cable up against the old one at either end, and make sure the end you're holding matches what you're looking at on the truck. Run the new cable alongside the old one. If it's broken, you won't even have to loosen the adjusting nuts. Get your head under the dash so you can see how it connects to the clutch pedal. Pull enough slack to disconnect it. Then get under the truck and do the same at the other end. Remove it. On the new cable, turn both adjusting nuts so that they're as far from the end as possible. I'd connect the end to the clutch fork first, then insert the cable into the hole in the firewall. Get inside and connect that end. Then adjust the nut closest to the firewall. Tighten it up enough to start the motor and put it in gear with the clutch pedal all the way down (no grinding). Then loosen it up until it begins to engage pretty quickly after you start raising your foot (and the pedal). Someone else may have additional tips for adjustment. When it's where you want it, tighten the outer nut against the inner one.
