Hi all LUV the site. Their is a lot of information. I have a couple of questions. I justed picked up a 79 running, good body minor surface rust for 300 bucks. Their is a couple of issues tho.

#1 it starts fine and revs fine but when put in gear and you start to drive it it sputters and spits and then corrects it self and does this every time switching gears. my thoughts were a float problem? But not sure .if you mash the pettle it sputters then picks up and goes.

#2 Are their any gauge pods sets for the rail to the left of the wind sheild? I have not seen any in the pictures but It would really like to get/make something.

This is my first truck and it looks like a good project. Thanks for all or any feed back. I have hot really to get my hands dirty with it till this weekend witch I will submit pictures then. I am sure I will be posting several more questions in the near future thanks again.

I seem to have the same sputtering problem, so I too would be looking for an answer to this question.

well it could be your not getting wide open throtle. Then chack all the cables and suck and make shure they arent biding. ALso check the fuel filter, i was just thinking and mine stated doing this and then it would die. Swapped out the fuel filter and all was well.

check your air filter. My truck has a bad habbit of not liking a dirty air filter. I whent and bought a cleanable one as i go play in mud and usually have to clean it once a month to keep the truck happy.

I have installed S-10 pods on my truck.
if you go to my website you will see them.
just a bit of minor cutting and it will fit with some pop-rivets.

I would check out your vacum advance first, the fact that it smothes out when you rev it up could be because you are increasing the vacum and your advance is working, or it could just be as simple as your timing being off a couple degrees, When I got mine it ran like crap on the shifts and my timing was off a ton, I retimed it and now it runs like a top.
Those are the two easy things for you to check before you start tearing apart the carb etc..

If it runs ok cold but stutters when warm, it's probably a vacuum leak leaning out the mixture too much after warm up. Plug all the little vacuum ports on the carb and intake manifold except the spark advance. If it runs better after warm up, start putting all the vacuum lines back on until it sputters. The last one you put on is your culprit.

i dont know if this is your problem but, on my 78, every time i would take it out of gear, it would idle down, but if i put it in either 1st or 4th, it would idle up. i later found out that there is a switch in the tranny that assists when taking off and in higher speeds. that way less fuel is used. it could be that your little switch is bad. just a thought.
