Just when I was getting the engine problems straightened out, another problem arose. I was changing the seat out in the Luv truck when I was trying out a couple of speakers. I cranked the truck to try a different set of speakers and the generator light came on. It stays on when running and none of the gages work and the heater fan does not work. The radio didn't work - I took it out. I've checked numerous connections. With the engine running I can take the positive post off the battery to see if it can run by the generator and it does. When I put the clamp back on the positive post, the generator light is not on now. But if I turn on the trun signals or the heater fan the light will come back on and stay on and the gages won't work. I've replaced the turn signal switch with one off a junk Luv and the flashers for the turn signals and emergency flashers. There is a lot of loose wires under the dash even looking at the diagram in the back of the Haynes Manual. It starts fine and runs fine. Sorry for the long post here, but I would really appreciate ya'll's help in trying to figure this one out. Any ideas where a short is in the system or a ground.

P.S. I've checked the fuses, but I'll recheck them.

Thanks alot.

i had a problem exactly like this. My gen light would come on and the gages would go dead. I cleaned every sigal terminal on the back of the fuse box, this solved it. No problems anymore :)

if you have been replacing stuff and unplugging stuff you might want to go back where you have been changing stuff and see if that might be your problem.
good luck.
