ok in the hitachi dcp 340 carb rebuild kit it looks like there is a red plastic check ball and a silver steel check ball. plastic will be lighter than steel to my knowledge but my car upon inspection now has 2 silver checkballs , one in each spot labeled check ball. to me this looks like its wrong to have the same steel balls in both as the kit had red and silver according to my labels on the picture, what color should be check ball #1 and which for #2. i didnt do the rebuild but the engine is racing and surging so somethings wrong here please help

The steel one is heavy and goes in the bottom of the accelerator well. Since the plastic one is lighter it needs a spring to help it seat, so it would go in the port with a spring and screw cap holding it in. Both are needed for proper operation of the accelerator pump.

so having 2 steel balls could be causing the high acceleration surges when turning it over trying to have it at idle?

gets even more interesting.

so we put the red plastic ball where the acceleration pump is, held down in the port with a spring and screw cap holding it in

when we took the other one out a magnet helped- stuck to it , brought it inside and noticed the other silver ball in the kit (that came back after being used) DIDNT stick to the magnet. so could this kit have had 3 balls- aye!! so , that other check ball i hope is the right "silver " one, not sure what material it is made of now. as the carb where that is isnt opened up at the moment.....

well perhaps we fixed it perhaps musical balls has to be played

Probably any of them would work, but I know the factory original ones had a steel one in the bottom of the accelerator pump well, it just sets in there. It is trapped in there by the accelerator pump.
I doubt if this would cause the engine racing though. Take a flashlight and look down into the carb, make sure the throttle is closing all the way in both barrels. The linkage should work freely by hand and close all the way.
Yes you won't use all the parts in the carb kits as many have extra parts in them for several different but similar models, etc.
