I think that your front driveshaft won't let your tranny turn, so , do as you said and jack the back to align for hookup ! Just make sure your parking brake is not set , and chock your front wheels. :) Maybe i'm not seeing quite what your sayig though  If you dont have a driveshaft hooked to your rearend , then how would the transmission have anything to do with wether or not your rear tires will turn? :? :? :? :? :?

No, not if your front driveshaft is still intact.

Yeah man, first make sure you have all your drivetrain components neutralized. Besides, if all you did was install a driveshaft there isn't a whole heck of a lot that could have gone wrong enough to bind up the meatball.

The rear driveshaft will turn if you spin both of the rear wheels.

i think a better way to test or at least easier to explain is to just jack the rear up and try turning the yoke on the rear end (where the drive shaft hooks up) and then your wheels should turn. Should have both rears turning maybe not the exactly the same rate but both should turn.
