Hey guys. It's starting to get cold in the mornings now and I'm having a problem. My carb is beginning to freeze up on my way to work in the morning because of the cold air being sucked in so fast, and that really sux. It means I gotta stop on the side of the road and turn of the engine and sit for a couple of minutes while I wait for it to thaw. I found out that I need a exhaust heat sheild to put on, and hook up to my air cleaner housing. And nobody has any......have any of you guys seen anything like this for the LUV?

do you mean a tube thingy that comes from the exsaust up to the air filter housing? If so they arent that hard to set up i had to do on my f-150 to pass emmisions. Another thing you might look into is if you choke is running right and see if you can get something called a thermostatic valve for the air cleaner.

sabin, I'm assuming you're running the stock 4 banger... that heat shield is supposed to be on there already unless someone ripped it out. Heres a quick fix you can look into. Go to your local junk yard, rip a decent looking heat shield out of a trooper or pup with a 4 cyl engine in it. It might not be so easy to find one in perfect shape so I wouldn't be too picky. The heat shield will have an outlet at the top for a hose to hook up to. Then go to NAPA or something and pick up a carburateor pre-heater hose. The hose is usually just a simple foil hose that'll go from that heat shield up to your air cleaner. That'll take care of your problem and it shouldn't cost you much at all. Hope it helps.

Hey thanks for the input guys. Somebody had ripped the original sheild off. They had some weird setup on the engine that didn't work very well. I put a proper carb on a few months ago and...now it's freezing up. So yea John that would be great if you could send me up one. I would really appreciate it.
