Take the radiator to a shop & have it thoroughly boiled out & rodded or replace it with a new one, when they get a thick layer of buildup inside no amount of radiator flush will clean them out.
After the radiator fix you can get a little added cooling by using the 7-blade 17" fan setup from a truck with AC provided yours came with the stock 4-blade 15" fan.

Also you might want to check to see if you can run water through the block.Drain coolant, then remove the thermostat. Run water through the top inlet and let it come out the bottom.I have seen where an old freeze plug blocks the coolant passage in the block.

i had the same problem but it was the radiator cap and also try clearing out the heater hoses and the heater core might be plugged not allowing water through as well!!!! its actually pretty easy to replace the heater core also!

Did you look at your carb? Running lean will make it hot.

Might be a dumb question but I figured I'd ask since it's easy to overlook things when troubleshooting...is it the gauge that is reading hot? I am just wondering if you have made sure its not the gauge or sending unit.

take your sunday news paper (after you read it) :ebiggrin and role it up.

with the engine running just sitting at idle, stick the paper in to the clutch fan .

if it keeps turning and shredding the paper its good,
if it stops and you can hold it with your hand its not doing its cooling job.
