this is something that i should have mentioned...a couple months ago my rear end locked up on me. i was lucky and found one in a scrap yard the next day. after i changed it out is actually when i first noticed the noise. is it possible that it is coming from the rear end and not the transmission? if so, what would cause it? i know that "ethelkilledfred" mentioned that his rear end did something similar...can anyone elaborate?

The rear end should have 90wt (or so) in it. Did you check it to make sure it was full?

it is full...i put new gear oil in it when i replaced it
