The stock intake/exhaust assy is a problem because the reason they're together is the fact that the E.G.R. system is tied to both manifolds. If you build a custom header, you will eliminate the E.G.R. and a block off plate must be fabricated to close off the stock intake. As for the carb, a Weber 32/36 DGEV is the way to go. My suggestion is to add the new Weber carb and fabricate a custom exhaust. Thats it. The stock early motor is designed for economy and will not hold up to performance modifications. It has a dual timing chain setup and it will not hold up in the long run. As for the column shift, that's a new one for me. I assumed that they were floor shift like their American Luv cousins. Maybe a stock shift lever and boot will make easy work of that.
