the wheel wobble from side to side is going to be a problem in steering linkage.
wobble from top to bottom (grab top and bottom of wheel and rock it in and out) and if there is any wobble, its wheel bearings.

(learned that from my dad)

Should have been more specific. Thanks,Fig!

so the reason i revived this thread is my luv was having the same sound...I checked the belts it wasnt coming from them. my fiance was in the truck with me and i had her jump out at a stop light, and she said it was coming from a little behind the passenger side door. mind you this is at a dead stop with or without the clutch pushed in. I was like great its the transmission or a bearing around there! i was looking in to how much that woulld cost when i decided to double check to make sure it was coming from the tranny. The sound was particularly bad one night so left it running and went to the passenger side and got down on the ground. I picked up a rock and hit the catalytic converter and the sound stopped! have you guys heard of this before? is it a matter of just tightening up the exhaust or should i replace the catalytic converter?

You'll have to get under there when it's cool, and check it out. If all the heat shrouds and welds are tight and good, it very well could be the inside of the cat. But they cost a few bucks, so make sure that's what it is before you replace it.
