I am having trouble with my rear hub.... on my stock '72. I cant pull it off. I loosened my parking break so that there is no tension from that. Is there a brake tension adjuster that any of you know about? or does anyone have advice? thanks for your help

I think there's a screw holding the drum on the axle. I think it's a countersunk phillips screw between two studs.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. :)

If I remember right, there is a oval shaped rubber gromet on the lower back of the hub. If you pop off the gromet you can get to the ratcheting tensioner and release the pressure on the pads. I could be wrong though.

I had to beat on mine right between the studs with a hammer to break the rust loose. It finally came off, but was still a bit tight. Now I have a Datsun 300 ZX Turbo rear end with disk brakes. One day she will be on the road........

Yeah I had to go to the ol' stand by al few shots of WD-40 right in the middle to help loosen up the rust and beat the hell out of it with a hammer.
That was after I had to use the screw extractor to get the old screws out. I guess the guy I bought it from had the same idea of checking the back brakes and tried to get those screws out. Well anyway you know the drill  I had to check em out when I did my disc brake conversion, just for my own safety.

I think you can get at the tensioner from the back, but it is not an easy task. If you have the drum broke loose from the axle and it is hanging up on the shoes trying to wiggle it off, that is about your only hope though. My wife's 83 Pup wore grooves into the drums and the shoes just would not let go. I ended snapping the hold downs to get them off because I was not patient enough to ratchet the tension off, and I had spare parts.
