Shane , when i rebuilt my 80 stock 1.8 i torqued everything to specs inside and out...execpt the intake manafold. Even with the carb off it is really hard to get to those bolts. I just could not get my torque wrench to all of them. , so i just tightened them in a stagered pattern. Each one a little at a time , untill they are all tight. My engine seems to run like new , they sell a intake man. gasket set. You should be able to find them at your local autoparts store. I would'nt sujest you use any gasket sealer. If you get it back together and you think you have a leak, there are different ways to verify if that is true or not...without takeing it back off. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I dont think I'm going to be able to get my torque wrench in there. I was wondering do you think I should get my intake manifold resurficed before putting it on, and have them check for cracks

Shane, I would personally recommend having that done. Its not all that expensive and its better to do it while you have it off now instead of ending up with vacuum problems down the road. As far as the sealent goes, I've always told people to use their best judgement. In the case of the LUV, the manifold bolts aren't as accessible and that sometimes ends in minor sealing issues, so it might be smart to use some.

I already have it off might as well get it resurfaced, I had already put the intake on already but it still had some leaks in it so I took it back off, the sealant I had on it before covered up the little hole on the intake for the coolant to go through so I wasnt sure if I should use some or not, so I will see what happens after I get It checked and put it back on, let you guys know what happens when I am done, Thanks again
