Got a question for all you LUV Truck people out there. I'm installing a mechanical fuel pump and read something about a spacer that must be used. In the engine exchange years ago, there was no spacer. Anybody know how thick this spacer needs to be, or if it is even that critical to have?

Long story short, a deer took out my Neon this morning, another deer took out the mini-van a couple of months ago, and I am pulling my old LUV Truck out of mothballs in response. Years ago The Macho Truck went through a deer at over 70 mph and barely shuttered! If Bambi wants a war, Bambi's going to get a war! But next time, Bambi will be facing a proven deerslayer.

I haven't messed with a mechanical fuel pump in years. Do you have the little rod that acts as a push rod? You may be able to make one out of something hard like a bolt. It will take some tricky measuring, but I think you want the push rod just barely making contact with lever on the fuel pump when the cam is at its lowest point.

No, it operates directly off of the cam. The paperwork mentioned reusing a spacer from the engine, but this truck was re-engined a few years ago and does not have that spacer. I've fabricated one, just don't know the exact thickness to use. Apparently, not many people are going with the mechanical pumps these days. I may end up going back to electric in the future, but right now I just need to get the thing running again. Been without it too long.

i just replaced the fuel pump in my 78 luv and i went with eletrical just as it seems simpler you connect the fuel lines you mount it and you run a power and a ground to it and your set =) i got mine from kragen for like 25$ brand new, the new one just needs to be mounted on mine anyways, on another fuel line holder that actually holds the fuel line inin the exsisting fuel pump set up but i ran new fuel lines in mine and there for no lolnger needed the existing routing, and they just bolt right into place, my personall suggestion is go with eletrical style pump, but thats me =)
