i have a 76 luv and need a new carb and everywhere i check they are expensive are there any alternatives

The best alternative is a Weber 32/36 for a stock engine. You can find them for around $50-$100 depending on condition. Often you will have to rebuild them to some degree but they are pretty simple to work on if you have basic skills. If you want to use the crappy stock Hitachi you can find them on Ebay sometimes for cheap. There is a lot of info on this site about the weber.
