Hi guys I have a 1980 stock truck , Has anyone just removed the smog pump belt ??? and if so ,did the eng run better or worse and did the gas milage go up or down ???? Thanks Jim

Personally, I have not noticed any gain or lost in the mileage area. I have all the smog equipment off and line/holes plugged. I also have a electric fan. I noticed in increase in the mileage and HP when I installed the electric fan. The motor is stock at I think 115,000 with only two head gaskets. Hope this helps. Lee

Sorry if this is a bit old...

I'm not too sure about power, but the smog pump/equip. controls the mixture control valve.
To my understanding, the mixture control valve leans things out at highway speeds... so, it gives better gas mileage...
I recently replaced and reconnected mine...
The around town mileage stayed the same (about 26mpg) but it now gets about 33mpg on the highway... I used to only get about 28-29...

also, since the smog pump is connected to vac lines in some places, it might turn backwards if you remove the belt... I'm not an expert, but that could be a problem...
