I don't think anything above 86 (maybe some 87s) will bolt right up, but I don't think it has been specifically tried either. I looked at rockauto.com and compared part numbers between an 86 Trooper and a 90 Trooper and they do use different part numbers but look very similar and the numbers are just one number apart. Without them side by side its hard to tell if the difference is shaft sizes that might make it not work or something dumb like hose connections.
