What color are the wires?

I can't remember anything else that should be there. If the block is a G200 from an Isuzu Impulse it might have a knock sensor in the block, but I think they sit higher up right on the side of the block. There are plugs that go to oil galleries for each of the main bearings right in the area you describe. It could be that someone took one of them out and put in another oil pressure sensor for an aftermarket gauge. The Impulse motor might also have a second oil sensor too. LUVs just have the idiot light but the imps have a light and a gauge. Check the driver's side of the block behind the exhaust manifold. It should say G180 or G200 in letters about an inch tall cast into the block.

Hey thanks for the responses . The block says g200 and the wires which go into the unit look light grey with small red stripe . If this is an isuzu impulse eng, is it better, what h.p. and as I was about to adjust the valves , does anyone know the clearance , is it the same 006 and 010 as the others , lastly ,I have noted people talking about 2nd or 3rd heads , are these motors hard on heads . I would be very interested in hearing any experiences or opinions on these engines as while I can build anything ,the wealth of knowledge you guys have from your experiences can save me so much time , Thanks Jim

I suspect the mystery unit is an oil pressure sensor used to operate the fuel pump on the G200. Luv G180 uses the alternator to control the fuel pump operation, and many vehicles use oil pressure to do the same thing. It is a mandated safety thing--the fuel pump runs only when the engine runs.

On my '87 Trooper it is the sender for the oil pressure gauge. Before you set the valve lash go ahead and re-torque the rocker arm shafts (12-16 ft lbs), & I like to re-torque the heads (10 mm hex, 72 ft lbs), I have blown one head gasket in 30 years, I do this at least every 20,000 miles.

Hi guys . I talked to a friend who is an old time parts guy ,he looked up the possibilities and said if it's a g200w it is an isuzu 1949cc from an 82 -85 luv and if it;s a g200z it;s from an 83-87 isuzu truck ,but he could not find the mystery unit . From the fact that it has 2 wires ,one would think it is used to regulate electricity passing through it [maybe the fuel pump??] or some other item I will check the whole eng number tomorrow . keep the info coming Thanks Jim

It is the oil pressure sender for the light on a impulse. The Imp sender for the gauge goes in the spot near the oil filter where the LUV's one and only idiot light sensor plugs in. I bet it looks something like this pic I found looking up the sender for an 85 Impulse on rockauto.com:

Since you know you have a g200 block you might want to look at the head too. I believe the head should say G200 on the front that I have seen a couple that did not say anything. If you have a G180 head on the G200 block it will raise the compression a fair bit. If it is the Impulse block (as I'm begining to suspect) it will have flat top pistons for even more compression, maybe too much. The truck motors were basically the same but had some dish to the pistons lowering the compression ratio a bit.

Hmm...
Mine are flat topped...
Hey, one more question... Can the g-200 crank fit in the 180 block?

Sorry, I guess I lied about my truck being stock...
