A rodent, which si presently in my truck with me at this moment, (It crawled out of its nook, looked at me with HATRED in its eyes, then went back into the nook, I am helpless against it) has been chewing on the coolant lines to the heater as they connect under my intake manifold.

It seems impossible to get to them. Do I have to remove the motor to get to them or anything drastic like that, or can I take the wheel and fender skirt off and get to it like that?

Remove the tire and fender skirt on the passenger side. The hose is right there. Really not as bad as it looks.

I had one of these chew completly through 2- 12 pin connectors on wife's mpv. It hasn't run since. I went to farm store and got some blocks of rat killer and put it under the hood of all cars. Hope this gets them.

This calls for one large screwdriver. Don't let the devil get the best of ya. Drive it through the heart. Problem solved.

The problem is, I blasted it's boyfriend (I am assuming its sex and relationship status), and destroyed every rodent nest within a 1/2 mile radius from where I live.

I ended up buying straight generic heater tubing and routing one right between the EGR and intake manifold, and the other 4' too long so it wouldn't kink.

Now, instead of instantly overheating, my truck takes forever to get hot, but now, yes, it still gets too hot.

Well then you should be checking the thermostat and the water pump. I assume you've already checked the fluid levels. And I hope you don't have a dead rat in the water line!

New thermostat. (160) I never understood why a water pump would go bad, that thick cast iron impeller.. I mean what can go wrong besides the seal?

Well it's not inconceivable that a water pump shaft could break. Your belt could be loose and slipping. I'm just trying to think of reasons for your engine overheating. Is the radiator flowing through; no blockages? A water pump could also have a leaking gasket, but that's usually very evident with the coolant steaming on a hot engine. Not the greatest odor that's for sure. How hot does it go?

You could check the flow of oil through the oil galley by observing the oil flow with the top cover removed. The oil should be dripping from the camshaft journals and rocker arm journals. Make sure you don't get any dirt in the engine, and use a competent gasket when replacing the top cover. I prefer the cork Felpro.

Is this LUV being driven, or is it a work in progress? It sounds like it must be sitting. If you were running down the road the rat problem would be solved, would it not? I don't think the rats would want to stay atop your tranny, or wherever they're staying, unless it's in the seat. Are they nesting in the seat? Ha ha ha. I hope you don't get bit. Rats carry rabies. You won't very well go to work flippin' burgers while foaming at the mouth, will you? Then again, wolves carry rabies too. I'd say there's a seventy-five percent chance of you catching the dreaded disease, so you better go get yourself immunized. Hop in the LUV and go. If it's running.

Ignition timing set wrong can cause overheating. Also a clogged (slightly) radiator. Maybe the gauge is wacko. Have you checked with a mechanical temp gauge?

I don't want to catch rabies.... twice.

Anyway, haha, I live in a remote portion of the desert where the land has been unhindered my man and the rodents run free. If I forget to roll a window up I will have a truck full of rodents in the morning.

And actually, since I replaced the hoses, the temperature has gotten really stable, and I have stopped adding water to the overflow tank, now.

It is a daily driver, too, but like I said, I once opened the hood after driving the day before and got to see a huge rodents run around the engine block like it was a racetrack. I wanted to blast it, but that would have been foolish, you know.

How would i unclog the radiator? This might be it. Also, does that cabover give you any trouble in the twisties?

The best way is to remove the rad. and have a rad. shop boil it out. Just look in it where the cap goes and you can see the passages inside. See if they are all clogged up.

The camper goes on my F250. I just put the LUV under for the pic. It wouldn't even fit in between the fender wells on the LUV.

Also the timing cover in behind the water pump can corrode out pretty bad, thus reducing the effectiveness of the water pump.

Oh yes, I know about that timing cover-but it is good because when I rebuilt the motor I selected the very best timing chain cover (I had 3 to chose from).

I know that the cabover won't fit the LUV. lol I was making a joke. Your picture though is priceless, it really does look like you are hauling that thing around lol. There are plans though for a cabover for a minitruck. I was surprised to find out that this little truck could haul more weight than my 98 S10 truck w/ the 4.3L V-6.

It is a bit funny that. Carry a full metric ton.

And down here i can get a tow hitch thats legal for 2500kgs.

Not bad for a 1300kg truck. lol. make it gross 2300kgs and tow another 2500kgs, just shy of 5 ton. That would be fun with under 2L and 4 wheel drum brakes.
