Totally stock '80 1.8 4spd except the head was surfaced for a valve job some time ago. If I keep the EGR connected the little engine runs with a flat spot just off idle. This flat spot can be a pain since it can cause me to lurch when taking off from stop signs. If I unhook the EGR the truck runs great. My theory is that it feels like a lean fuel symptom but I dont know where it would have come from unless that minor head shaving (of probably 10-12 thousands) created enough of a compression bump to lean the carb and the EGR is pushing that lean mixture over the edge. Anyone have any ideas? I dont even know how adjustable these carbs are and I really dont want to start micro drilling jets. Thats a pain. Since I bought the truck used I dont know how it ran before the head was planed either. I was hoping someone has experienced the same symptom.
