I wouldn't mess with the idle speed screw on a diesel. If it is idling too low or too high, there is a problem. You don't really have to adjust the idle speed like on a gas carb.

ok speaking of diesels.....I have a major delima....
My brother has an old RPS van. 1992 with a 6.2liter diesel in it.
it isn't getting fuel to the injectors. it is getting fuel through the filter and out of the outlet to the accellerator mechanism. I don't know what to do now....
It was running when we backed it in the spot it is now. it has just sat a while.

I want to get this thing running so we can sell it. it has been in the driveway for more than 6 months now....

sorry to jack the thread....

Bleed the fuel system starting with the inlet to the filter. Make sure the fuel filter is full if diesel, then one at a time, open the b-nuts to the inlet side of the filter and turn over the engine till you get fuel. Do this all the way to the injectors. If this doesn't work, you may have an injector pump going bad, or a fuel pump that can't supply enough fuel pressure. Try starting the truck with wd-40. remove the aircleaner cover and spray wd in while cranking until it starts. If it dies imediately after you stop spraying wd-40, then you probably have a bad injector pump or fuel pump.

so it has an injector pump on it too? is the injector pump connected to the accellerator?
I was instructed to loosen the connection to the injectors one by one and nothing comes out. I even loosened one and pulled it away from the injector and it just dribbled out.
nothing was mentioned about some b-nuts....is that opposite of deez-nuts? :P are these b-nuts under the intake?

deisels......ugh....... :?

thanks for all the info man!

The b-nut is the line nut you probably had to use a 11/16 inch wrench to loosen. If you had nothing coming out of it, or very littl fuel, and your fuel filter is new and full of fuel, then you may have problems.

first i dont know much of jack about desiles, but im learning a bit from working/servicing semis for my uncle on the weekends.

i know we had one truck...a pete, that if you changed the fuel filter and didnt get the new one full of fuel . when yo tried to start it, it would just suck all the fuel outta the filter. then die.
we had to remove the filter, fill it again, and blow air into the fuel tank while someone cranked it to get it to take off.

i relize a van desile is ALOT diffrent from a semi desile and this probaly has NOTHING to do w/ your problem.....but hey im just rambling and wasting bandwith :P

That was right on the money larp. The part about the fuel filter not about wasting bandwidth  . I have worked on a few diesels in my life and know how they work. I belive it has to be a fuel delivery problem or a fuel pressure problem.

the filter mount thingy has a purge screw at the top of it. while cranking we opened the screw until the fuel squirted out.
After cranking for a few minutes we opened the screw and fuel bursted out like a mutha...........
this all is too much thinking.....and all cause a diesel....ugh....LOL
